The Comms Business Awards is one of the Comms Channel’s most acclaimed events. Independently judged and designed to recognise excellence and innovation as well as acknowledge the successes of telecoms resellers, dealers, distributors and service providers, the awards are one of the most sought after accolades in the telecoms industry.
On David’s behalf, Chess Director Bob Rylands collected the award at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel in front of 600 guests.
Comms Business Magazine’s Entrepreneur of the Year award seeks to recognise the individual within the industry that most clearly demonstrates the entrepreneurial qualities needed to build a successful telecoms business and ensure the sustainability of the market. These include tenacity, self belief, creativity, a strong work ethic and vision. David was singled out by the judges for building a well structured successful telecoms business with the flexibility to adapt with growth and changes in the industry.
Over 15 years, David has led Chess to become one of the UK’s leading telecoms businesses. It was established to take advantage of the business potential released in the utilities market by deregulation and David has adapted, evolved and developed his business strategy to making the most of opportunities created by evolving technology and the fast moving and dynamic telecoms industry.
“It’s a great honour to receive this award,” said David. “It represents the hard work, drive and ambition of all Chess people and the fact that it has been awarded by our peers in the industry demonstrates the excellent reputation we have established. Business growth is very important to us however, we will never let it get in the way of the founding principles of honesty and integrity that govern the way Chess is run. We don’t want to be the best of the best, we want to be the only ones who do what we do and our ultimate aim is to build a business of which we can all be truly proud.”
