Payroll Giving
Chess' chosen charity is The Prince's Trust. However Chess offer people the chance to donate to a charity of their choice through payroll giving. This is done through an organisation called Workplace Giving UK. They provide everyone with the opportunity to contribute some of their earnings, before tax, to a charity of their choice thus maximising the benefit to the charity. Staff can choose how much to give; typically people opt for a donation of around £5.
Prince’s Trust
Chess has participated in a couple of programmes in conjunction with this charity. The first entails a member of the Chess team working with those less advantaged than them in the local area. As either a team member or a mentor, time is spent away from the office, on full pay, working with people to educate them about the world of work and to share experiences and advice.
The second was a group of staff who comprised of an Enterprise Team. Their purpose was to raise £20,000 for the charity by 31 December 2007: this was done by organising a variety of fundraising events. There will be chance to participate in these programmes in the future.
