Chess ranks in the UK's 100 Best Companies to Work for 2011
Alderley Edge based Chess Telecom was announced recently as the 66th Best Company to work for in the UK
according to the Sunday Times.
Chief Executive, David Pollock said, “It’s a massive achievement to not only be one of the fastest growing
companies in the UK but to also be one of the Best Companies to Work for. This award is a credit to everyone
at Chess and their work to build a business of which we are all truly proud. The passion and support of our
people helps to create not just a great place to work but also a great company to be a customer of.”
The Best Companies award aims to recognize, from the millions in operation in the UK, those companies which
excel at workplace engagement. All companies that took part had to provide evidence of different workplace
initiatives including corporate social responsibility, environmental practices, benefits packages, and
training and development programmes as part of the award entry. A questionnaire was also sent to over 120
Chess employees asking for their feedback on Chess as a workplace.
In addition to the traditional benefits of health and dental plans, pension schemes and flexible working,
Chess wowed judges with more unusual benefits such as massages, breakfast club, flu jabs, health champions,
pub club, regular company outings, sponsorships for qualifications, a green team and holiday prize draws.
Andrew Green, Head of Performance at Chess, commented “It’s our vision to be ‘the choice’ for business voice
and data. To achieve this we develop great people to deliver great service. To be recognized as one of the
Sunday Times top 100 companies demonstrates the commitment of our people to exceeding our customers’
expectations.”
